I am a design researcher and technologist based in Brooklyn, NY, currently collaborating with early-stage product teams through my consultancy, rhizome r&d.
Here’s an abbreviated tour of the problem spaces my work has led me through:
At Google I led design research for the first world-scale augmented reality experiences, available today in Google Maps. My research program developed new methods for investigating the opportunities and risks of a uniquely complex emerging technology. Much of this work focused on the dynamics of human attention and tools for cognitive map development.
At Gehl I led the digital transformation of Jan Gehl’s groundbreaking observational methods in urban design, and collaborated with global cities from San Francisco to Moscow to design public spaces for thriving ecologies of public life.
I studied city planning at UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design with a concentration in urban design and served as a student instructor for graduate design courses. My master's thesis quantitatively examined how urban form shapes real estate markets across the United States and over the course of decades.
I spent my early career in politics, organizing canvassers in St. Louis during President Obama’s 2008 primary campaign.
I hold a Masters in City Planning from the University of California, Berkeley and a B.A. in political science from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and the University of Kansas.
